KARACHI: In light of the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, around 655 police personnel of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) assigned to CPEC security duties, who have completed five years of service, have not yet been able to return to their native districts.According to details, official letters issued by senior officers in February 2026 sought immediate submission of range-wise and district-wise lists of personnel, who had been posted in SPU on or before January 1, 2025.Apparently, correspondence has begun regarding the process of sending the constables back. However, their return is still unlikely before Eid.Sources said that a total of approximately 655 constables will be sent back to their home districts at Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, and Larkana ranges. In their place, newly recruited personnel from the 2025–2026 recruitment courses will be posted. It is worth mentioning that last year the Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected the appeal filed by former Inspector General of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, against the decision of the Sindh High Court. The appeal had been filed several months earlier. Despite the court ruling, the affected personnel have still not been posted back to their native districts. With Eid approaching, no written order has yet been issued, nor has any official confirmation been made through government sources.Police authorities have described the transfer of SPU personnel as part of routine postings based on completion of tenure. They said the constables have been directed to wait for a formal notification from the Central Police Office or their respective range offices.Officials further stated that all the concerned personnel will soon be posted to their native districts in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision. Until then, they have been instructed to wait for the official notification, which many have been awaiting for several months.Meanwhile, the current Inspector General of Sindh Police, Javed Odho, and his administration are reportedly working on efforts to implement the process.
