Bahria Foundation – A New Era in Pakistan’s Maritime Economy

High-Speed Boats, Oil Exploration and Global Partnerships Usher in a New Chapter of Maritime Development

KARACHI: Admiral Imran Ahmad HI(M), Managing Director of Bahria Foundation has launched a series of major initiatives to strengthen Pakistan’s defense, maritime economy, and energy sectors.Talking to this scribe, on the concluding day of Pakistan International Maritime Expo & Conference (PIMEC 2025) from November 3 to 6, 2025, at Karachi Expo.According to Vice Admiral (R) Imran Ahmed, Head of the Bahria Foundation, has said that the organization is now engaged in the development of high-speed armored boats, offshore oil exploration, and large-scale dredging operations.Vice Admiral (R) Imran Ahmed stated that “We are entering an era where maritime defense and industry are fully aligned with advanced technology. Our newly developed high-speed boats are equipped with navigation, radar, and armored patrol systems, designed for naval operations and coastal defense.”He revealed that two major drilling rigs have already been installed in the Creeks area, with soil testing completed, and there is about a 25% probability of discovering oil reserves.This project, he emphasized, could become a milestone in Pakistan’s marine defense infrastructure and energy development.So far, 35 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with international partners from Switzerland, Turkey, China, and the UAE, focusing on technical assistance, hydrographic surveys, and marine mapping.The Foundation is also in talks with the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) to strengthen civil-military collaboration for maritime development.In the next phase, the Foundation plans to establish a High-Speed Craft Production Unit, Marine Oil Refinery Plant, Dredging Training Institute, and a Naval Ship Support Yard.This ambitious initiative is expected to boost Pakistan’s Blue Economy, enhance maritime self-reliance, and create new opportunities in defense, energy, and employment.By the grace of Allah, if all goes as planned, we will soon write a new chapter in Pakistan’s maritime resources he said.
