Nine more kids die due to malnutrition at Thar

MITHI: Nine more kids died of diseases and malnutrition at Civil Hospital Mithi during past four days. According to details infants of Naroo, Ali Nawaz Soomro, Ali Anwer and Wero Kolhi, Mohammad Bux Lund, Prem Das, one-month Maria, Rabia of 13 months and four years Varshia, died at Civil Hospital Mithi raising the death toll to 361 since January this year.
The parents carrying their ailing kids complained of the discriminatory and callous attitude of the doctors and other staff saying that most of the parents were being forced to shift their kids to Hyderabad and Karachi hospitals without being provided with fuel in the ambulances.
Dr. Satram Roopani, a local activist talking to “OIN” demanded the government to focus on the nutrition of the pregnant women and weak kids. “Kids will continue to die until the basic issues like nutrition, safe drinking water and healthcare facilities at the door steps of the people are not ensured,” added Dr. Roopani.
The CEO of Health and Nutrition Development Society ( Hands) Shaikh Dr. Tanweer has urged the Sindh government to come out with sophisticated and long term policies to provide nutrition to the pregnant Thari women avoid more fatalities of the newborns.
