Sindh Minister for Info & Local Govt kicks off “Clean-Green and Peaceful Sindh”

Sindh Minister for Information, Archives and Local Government Sharjeel Innam Memon kicked off “Clean-Green and Peaceful Sindh” week on Monday. He wielded the broom and swept road to mark the commencement of the week at Pakistan Chowk, one of the oldest venue in Karachi.
Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Municipal Commissioner Masood Alam, District South Deputy Commissioner Saleem Rajput, District South District Municipal Corporation Administrator Afzal Zaidi, Municipal Commissioner Dost Muhammad Raeesi, District South Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Asim, Arts Council of Pakistan Secretary Ahmed Shah and others were present.
The Minister announced the campaign would last till one full year from now onward despite observance of the cleanliness campaign as weeklong token event. During the cleanliness week, the city would be cleansed from illegal hoardings and billboards, off-the-street encroachment and special tree plantation would be in the main focus across the province.
Earlier, the Minister also kicked off tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling within the Sindh Assembly premises. On the occasion were present Sindh Assembly Speaker Aga Siraj Khan Durrani, Sindh Senior Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmakers Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan and Syed Faisal Sabzwari and Pakistan People’s Party lawmakers Imdad Pitafi and Fayyaz Bhut were present.
The Minister said he was executing his obligation for making the metropolis a city without pollution and full of greenery for which the whole of the civil society, NGOs, media and the people should play their dynamic role to make the ongoing cleanliness campaign a success.
He said the campaign would be continued throughout the year and around 100,000 saplings would be planted in the city to promote the safe environment and for curbing the pollution. As a follow-up of the tree plantation campaign, 100,000 saplings would also be planted in each of city’s district additionally.
He said all illegal sianages and graffiti from walls of the city would be removed.
The Minister said special monitoring committees under the aegis of deputy commissioners (DC) had also been formed to monitor the progress of municipal authorities regarding cleanliness and in case of dissatisfaction, the DCs would have the powers to take action against DMCs’ administrators, municipal commissioners and other officers concerned and if needed, to remove them as well.
He appealed to the media to highlight the ongoing cleanliness campaign.
To a query, the Minister said that steps had also been initiated for taking the eminent civil society members, traders, artists and sportsmen on board to make the campaign a successful event to transform the province into clean and green and peaceful one.
He, while responding to another question, said either he would manage to eliminate the ghost strength of employees in local government department or would relinquish as Minister. The DCs had also been given powers to take action against the ghost employees without taking any pressure from the political side or any other.
He categorically said no staffer or officer in local government department would be spared for negligence or misconduct.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AFTER ANNOUNCEMENT OF POLL SCHEDULE NOT POSSIBLE – SHERRY REHMAN

Pakistan Peoples Party’s Vice President Sherry Rehman has said that the PPP stands against horse trading in every sense and welcome cooperation to strengthen democracy but a constitutional amendment at this stage is not possible after announcement of poll schedule. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, she opined that neither can the Senate’s procedure of single transferrable vote on a proportional basis be open in a system that often requires 2, 3 even 4 rounds. “Also Shaheed Zulifkar Ali Bhutto’s constitution guaranteed sanctity of secret ballot; if the government needs a reform package we are happy to talk of broad electoral reform package,” Sherry Rehman added.
High Court of Sindh, Karachi, Additional M.I.T.I, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf issued a press release on Saturday for general information that complete list of all the candidates for the posts of Additional District & Sessions Judge and Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate, showing the objections / remarks on the applications, has been uploaded and available on the website of high court.
All the candidates are advised to visit the high court website i.e. www.sindhhighcourt.gov.pk and to remove the deficiencies / objections, if any shown against their names in the columns of objection / remarks within the specified period as mentioned in the said list.
