Polling ends at Chichawatni on NA-162 by-election

CHICHAWATNI: Polling for by-election on NA-162 Chichawatni has been ended while counting of votes underway in a close contest between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates is expected.
The polling started at 8:00 am and ended at 5:00 pm, later counting started. No incident of violence have been reported in across the by-poll area.
A close contest is being predicted between PML-N’s Tufail Jutt and PTI’s Rai Murtaza, while PPP’s Shehzad Cheema and other candidates are also in the run.
The seat fell vacant after PTI’s Rai Hassan Nawaz was disqualified by the Supreme Court for concealing his assets.
A total of 14 candidates are in the run for the by-election. Police and other security agencies have made elaborate security arrangements. The election is being held under the supervision of Pak army. There are over 306,000 registered voters for whom 293 polling stations have been set up. Of these 293 polling stations, 22 have been declared very sensitive.
