Aurangzeb Farooqi escapes unhurt in Karachi terrorist assault

KARACHI: Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi came under terrorist attack in Karachi area of Quaidabad an hour after the midnight,
According to police sources, Farooqi escaped the attack unhurt; however, his three gunmen sustained gunshot injuries in the drive-by shooting assault on Quaidabad bridge past midnight.
The injured have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital.
Following the incident, different people resorted to aerial firing triggering panic among the local residents.
Later talking to media, Farooqi directed the workers to stay peaceful, adding he was not hurt in the incident and only the vehicle was damaged in the attack.
The ASWJ Karachi chief narrated the incident, “We were coming from a program in Korangi’s Zia Colony when some miscreants opened fire at us from the bridge opposite Swedish College. They may be on motorbikes. Their gunshots hit our vehicle. Tire was burst and our vehicle stopped by roadside.”
However, the attackers took to heels when his security guards returned the firing, he added.
On this occasion, Farooqi said the government withdrew his security a few days ago, adding he termed the attempt on his life as a conspiracy against the peace of the metropolis and country
