Six die in land sliding near Lowari Tunnel

CHITRAL: At least 6 people were dead while 7 others were injured when a boulder of snow fell on Sunday morning in Chitral.
According to reports, snowfall has started again in upper parts of the district while rain has started to pour again in Chitral city. Moreover, snowfall in Lower Top has caused electricity wires to break. Subsequently, power supply was suspended to parts of the district.
Rescue authorities said the incident occurred after landsliding hit Lowari Tunnel workshop following heavy snowfall in the area.
The landsliding in the remote area buried at least 16 people, they were pulled alive and six dead while rescue was underway to recover three missing.
Officials of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and locals took part in the rescue.
Avalanches and landsliding are common in the Chitral, Gilgit, Azad Kashmir and other mountainous areas of Pakistan.
