Four provincial groups of Contractors Association have threatened for wide protest and knock the door of justice if their issues were not resolved by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) here in Press Conference.
The lead officials of Federation of Constructor Association Sindh including Chairman Rao Abdul Saeed, Naeem Kazmi, VP Mohammed Hanif Mandokhel, Fahim Zaman Khan, Kamran Nareja, Haji Siraj Mandokhel and others condemned the PEC imposing unilaterally designed Act under clause 30, PEC, 1976, which is a complete violation of SRO.
According to them the Act has no constitutional and legal ground as it had not been approved by National Assembly or any other government authority and it is totally violation of SRO they said.
All the Federation of Constructor Associations Sindh members of Karachi Constructors Associations, Sindh Constructors Association, City Contractors Association and all Sindh Government Contractors Association have also disclosed that they would registered under CEPRA body after meeting with Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, adding that in routine they are also completing the terms and rules under CEPRA, so that they would prefer to be the members of CEPRA like body, despite of PEC irregularities.
The respective members have appealed for resolution to their problems to save them from ‘economic murder’ by preventing the PEC from enacting this and to remove all non-constitutional orders and notifications. They said if the failure of contractors to fulfill illegal terms laid on them it should not be given any contract or project of civil, mechanical, electrical, or prescribed 36 categories laid down in the PEC Act, according to the PEC, so that they have demanded the government to terminate current chairman of the PEC.
However, the PEC Chairman has said that the legal notification has issued as per Board decision and according to the law, but some of these contractors do not want to fulfill legalities and to appoint Engineers under required quality assurance as per law.
