LAHORE: Mobile phone services will be partially blocked in the provincial capital of Punjab on Saturday.
Mobile phone services will be suspended in Model Town and surrounding areas for 24 hours.
The decision was taken during a PML-N meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif which finalised security arrangements for the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Youm-e-Shuda scheduled for August 10.
The provincial government has also sent a notice to the Minhaj-ul-Quran administration to vacate the grounds surrounding the secretariat.
DCO’s will also be authorised to impose section 144 in districts in Punjab where the need arose
Earlier the Punjab government has decided to keep the Army and Rangers on standby in all the cities/towns of the province including the capital city.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) sources told Geo News that the decision to keep army, Rangers on standby has been taken as a preemptive measure to avert any untoward incident in the backdrop of operation Zarb-e-Azb underway in North Waziristan.
Army and Rangers under this arrangement could be called in any district of the province when required, sources said. They will also ensure safety and security against threats from terrorists to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) August 14 Azadi March, sources added.
