Economic reforms bill tabled in Senate

ISLAMABAD: The Protection of Economic Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was tabled in Senate on Monday, which, according to the mover Saleem Mandviwala, is aimed at stopping currency’s export.
Law Minister Zahid Hamid opposed the bill, saying that baninng currency’s export will create problems for the masses. He urged the mover to hold consultations with the treasury before tabling the Bill in the house, saying that the Bill may create many problems.
Chairman Senate remarked that the consultation should be held at the Committee. He put the move before the house to allow Senator Mandviwala to present the Bill, which the house adopted. After the passage of the motion, Chairman Senate allowed Mandviwall to present the Bill in the House.
Later, Chairman Senate sent the Bill to the concerned Standing Committee for deliberation.
Earlier, the senators called upon the federal and provincial governments to take effective steps for development of agriculture sector in the country. They were speaking during discussion in the Senate on a motion moved by Taj Haider regarding the multiple problems being faced by agricultural sector.
The members said that the agriculture sector is facing a number of problems including shortage of water, poor quality seeds, insufficient fertilizer supply and lack of best quality pesticides.
They said in order to meet the water shortage, more big and small dams should be constructed all over the country.
The members said that in order to meet the future demands of food in the country formulation of agriculture and water policies at national level is imperative. They said that these policies should be formulated in consultation with all the provinces and other stakeholders. They said there is also great need of land reforms to meet the challenges faced by agriculture sector.
Those who spoke on the occasion include Mohsin Khan Leghari, Abdul Qayyum, Usman Khan Kakar, Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini, Mir Kabir, Kalsoom Parveen, Mohsin Aziz, Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, M Hamza, Rehman Malik, Sirajul Haq, Nehal Hashmi, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri and Mukhtiar Ahmad Dhamrah.
Federal Minister for Food Security Skander Hasyat Bosan said that there should be no politics on the issue of agriculture. He said that there was a need to ensure access to easy financing to the farmers.
He said that no province except Punjab was ready to spend on farmers and agriculture sector. He told the house that all provinces except Punjab refused to contribute their shares in the Farmers Package.
Speaking on his motion, Taj Haider said that farmers in Punjab were facing problems due to the damages caused by floods some two years ago. He said that support price of different crops had not been raised for the last two years.
Three resolutions were passed in the House today. The first resolution which was moved by Chaudhary Tanvir Khan felicitated Pakistan cricket team on the achievement of number one position in Test cricket rankings.
The second resolution recommended to the government to give incentives to local car manufacturers to boost up production of low priced vehicles in the country.
The third resolution moved by Sassui Palijo recommended to the government to construct a 250 kilometer highway along the coast from Sir Creek to Karachi to serve as a wall against sea intrusion.
Two bills were introduced in the House today. They include: “The Protection of Economic Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2016” and “The Corporate Rehabilitation Bill, 2015”
“The Corporate Rehabilitation Bill, 2015” provides for the Rehabilitation and Restructuring of Corporate Entities. The bills were moved by Saleem Mandviwala.
