KARACHI: The implementation of Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) approach in true letter and spirit would open up avenues of decent employment for skilled workforce in the industry.
These remarks were made at an orientation on CBT&A organized at a local hotel by the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) in collaboration with the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union and governments of Germany and Norway.
CBT&A is a new training approach in Pakistan, which ensures quality of the skills training and it meets the requirements of the job market. In this approach learners are trained through practical demonstrations and assessed on the basis of their competence.
Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem, Special Assistant to chief minister Sindh who is also chairman of STEVTA speaking as chief guest at the occasion made commitment on behalf of present government adding that great importance is being given for the promotion of the technical education and vocational training in the province.
Managing Director of Sindh TEVTA Muzaffar Ali Bhutto said that human resource development has brought results for reduction of the poverty across the globe while the effective tool for the same has been recognized as technical and vocational education and training.
In his presentation, Nazir Channa, Director Operations of Sindh TEVTA highlighted the advantages of CBT&A and said that this is going to bring a paradigm shift in the delivery of technical and vocational education and training.
He also shed light on the difference between CBT&A training approach and conventional approach adding that the inclusion of the industry from the identification of demand driven trades ensures active participation of the industry and private sector, to lead towards better job opportunities for the completers.
Participants from private sector and public sector institutes participated in the session followed by question and answer session. Naeem Ahmed, Assistant Director of Trade Testing Board Sindh gave a detailed presentation on the assessment process.
