KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the Minister for Information and Local Government to launch an operation against encroachment and illegal construction on amenity plots within a week and report him. These directives he issued while presiding over a meeting at CM House on Monday.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali expressed his displeasure that the KMC, KWSB and local bodies of Hyderabad and Sukkur for allowing illegal constructions on government lands, encroachment on amenity plots and establishment of marriage halls/lawns illegally on government lands. “What is happening in this city and where are the KMC and KWSB administration,” he asked.
Minister for Information and Local Government Mr Sharjeel Inam Memon briefing the Sindh Chief Minister said that a large number of marriage halls have been constructed on the KMC land. “A similar havoc has also been wreaked with amenity plots meant for parks and community centers. Illegal marriage halls have also been established on KMC lands,” he said.
The chief minister expressing his displeasure directed the minister local government to compile a detailed list of the lands of KMC and KWSB under the illegal occupation of land mafia and furnish in his office within a week. “I want a similar report of Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana,” the chief minister directed.
The chief minister also directed the local government minister to launch a comprehensive operation against land mafia occupying local bodies land in Karachi within a week. “I would suggest you to write a letter for the assistance of Rangers, Police and anti-encroachment force of Sindh government for the operation. Sindh government would extend its full support,” he said.
The minister who was flanked by his team members, Secretary Local Government Mr Kazi Kabir, MD KWSB Mr Hashim Raza Zaidi and the some senior officers of KMC directed them to update the list of lands under encroachment, illegal marraige halls and plazas and submit in the CM House shortly.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotiana, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Alamuddin Bullo, Secrretary Finance Sohail Rajput and others. The meeting also discussed the recovery issued of KWSB.
The Minister for Local Government Mr Sharjeel Memon also told the chief minister that the monthly billing of the KWSB stood at Rs700 million but hardly Rs350 million were recovered. “Out of the recovery amount 90 percent goes into salaries and the remaining amount was utilized in repair and maintenance.
He said that there were around 14000 employees in KWSB against the requirement of 4000 employees.
The chief minister directed the minister to work out a strategy to increase the recoveries. “This is the only way to make the board (KWSB) an effective and self-sustained organisation. How long it would be depending on Sindh government for financial assistance,” he said.

KARACHI: The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the authorities concerned to complete the Khairpur Medical College (KMC) Khairpur and make it functional in all sense within two months. He directed the management of the college to expedite the procedure and get this college registered with “Pakistan Medical & Dental Council” (PMDC) within ten days. He asked the provincial Health, Law Departments and college management to complete the admission policy within fifteen days and also to invite the applications from deserving candidates for the admission by 15, February 2015. This he directed while presiding over meeting regarding Khairpur Medical College (KMC) Khairpur held at CM House Karachi today. The Secretary for Universities and Boards Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Principal Secretary to CM Allumdin Bullo, Sec Finance Sohail Rajput, Commissioner Sukkur Division Ghulam Abbas Baloch, Principal K.M College Khairpur Prof. Dr Mashoor Alam Shah and other officers attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting the Chief Minister Sindh said that this was Priority Scheme Launched in 2012 with its estimated cost of Rs. 795 million. He said that the last remaining amount of Rs. 433 million has also been released against this scheme form its annual allocation 2014-15 with a view to enable the management to make the scheme complete and functional in all sense.
He said that PPP Govt has always given Top Priority to the education Sector, specially qualitative and professional education to the youths of the province. He said that this college to cater the needs of local as well adjoining districts and its benefits to be trickled down to the poor masses of Sindh. The Chief Minister Sindh directed the authorities that 50% seats are reserved for the girls students in education policy.
The Principal of the KM College Khairpur briefed the meeting that above 95% works form Capital and revenue side have been completed while remaining works will be completed within few weeks. He said that faculty of the college has also been hired and now the college was at the verge of its functioning. He said that only registration of the college with PMDC is remaining and added that he will call the PMDC within 10 days to get this college registered.
He said that his management was ready to invite the application for the admission by 15th February.
