Strict measures beefed up in Karachi as Aushra days come close

KARACHI: Strict measures have been make to ensure security to Muharram processions in Karachi and other cities of Sindh on 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Imposing a five-day ban on motorbike pillion-riding across Sindh, the government has deployed thousands of police and Rangers personnel in the metropolis.
The law enforcing agencies have been put on high alert to deal with any eventuality.
Aerial surveillance of Muharram processions will be conducted to keep an eye on anti-state elements and terrorists.
Link-roads connecting to M.A Jinnah Road have been sealed with containers, with snipers deployed on roof tops along procession routes.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have also been installed to closely monitor activities on the procession routes under a Command and Control Center.
The mobile phone service is likely to remain suspended in Karachi and other cities of the country due to security concerns.
Majalis and mourning processions will be held on 9th and 10th of Muharram to highlight the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his family members in Karbala.
